Mixer is hosting ‘Ancient as Desire’ exhibition by Hilal Polat between December 22nd 2020 and February 6th 2021 in which she transforms an experimental venue narrating out of her own fictional mythology. The exhibition presents a mixed structure of the artist’s practice and experience in various fields combined with her imagination interpreted in her own intellectual matters.

Hilal Polat forms ‘Ancient as Desire’ through a path of situation defined in different beliefs in similar forms. This state is a chaos resulting out of the living creatures encountering a singular and dominant imposition of belief despite being open to living their existential attributes in their own unique and free way. While the artist expresses with indications positioning around concepts such as morality, right to live, aesthetics; she recommends a journey that pushes the limits of our imagination in the narrative space. She shows the viewers the possibility of approaching daily events with a different perspective while positioning the current footprints of the endless struggle of a doomed, historical generation within the reality and myth.

‘Ancient as Desire’ forms a theatrical design of Hilal Polat’s thoughts creating a space consisting of multidimensional installations as a result of the synthesis of forms such as embroidery, sculpture, miniature and light. It opens a fresh window for the artist’s production which is aiming to create a spatial perception. The creatures taking place in the exhibition setup with their different forms and unique attributes search for ways to show their own languages, stories and rights to live while communicating with the viewer. The exhibition as a strong rebellion against the existential state of nature and humanity being lowered down to particular norms, aims to make the viewer ask the following question through representations: How can a world exist without the absolute truth and beauty?

Hilal Polat’s exhibition named ‘Ancient as Desire’ where she turns Mixer’s main gallery space into a stage of narration is open between the 22nd of December 2020 and 6th of February 2021 between noon and 6 pm.
