This Is Not Us, This Is What Remained From Us
Ali Şentürk
05.09.2019-12.10.2019
Mixer will host Ali Şentürk’s 4th individual exhibition ‘This Is Not Us, This Is What Remained From Us’ between 5 September – 12 October 2019.
There are two distinct worlds that consist of objects and constant essences according to Plato’s ‘Allegory of the Cave’. The soul belongs to essence world while the body belongs to objective world. Şentürk focuses on the body and the object’s meronymy in ‘This Is Not Us, This Is What Remained From Us’. Therefore, Şentürk aims to create a whole that is composed of re-aggregated elements like the ones which are broken and lost their originality. He gathers the fragments that should not be merged or met in this exhibition. Understanding these objects as reflections of emotions that are formed by the artist’s and the audiences’ lives would be better instead of thinking them as simple art pieces. The situations that we met while in the process of becoming a ‘human’ are shaped by our physical fragments and become a part of our lives.
The artist adopts various fields such as sculpture, painting, photography, video and performance as his production principle. He illustrates usually somebody’s life and experiences and sometimes his own experiences while using the interpretative, metaphorical and fictional sides of art. On the other hand, in this exhibition the audience could be able to witness Şentürk’s distinct characteristics from his all competed works or the ones at the idea stage so far; at the same time, the audience will connect with a new story that is emerged by misencounters.
