Training: Women in The History of Arts
Mixer’s education programs are continuing with another topic that questions the women’s place in art history. In this two week seminars, with Assistant Professor Osman Erden, reasons of the differences why Rubens from Northern Baroque has a different approach while Botticelli who is from Florence Renaissance picturize women thin and tall, will be discovered. Why Ingres from 19th century deformed his painting, La Grande Odalisque? How orientalist painters has approached women? How Klimt, Modigliani, Matisse, Picasso interpret women?
The first part of the seminar will focus on how male artists approached women in art history. The second part of the seminar will focus on the interpretation of art history by feminist artists in 1970s, the works of feminist artists within contemporary art and the status of women artists in Turkey.
